Woodland Takes Big Initiative To Get
The Newest Innovative "Green Products"
Into The Mainstream Building Supply Chain
With all the discussion about the Green Building trend, one local building supply company owner was surprised to find that some of the most innovative resources are not even readily available to the builders who need them most.
According to Larry Reese of Woodland Building Supply, one of the area's largest operations servicing the commercial market from small and mid-size contractors to large construction companies, "Many of the most exciting, interesting and innovative 'green products' are not even available in the mainstream construction supply industry."
"We've been seeing a lot of advances in insulation products, more energy efficient window and door systems, and some basic recycled building materials," See summary of Woodland's previous standard green product lines* says Larry Reese. "But when I really started investigating the Green Scene I found that we have just scratched the surface of the variety of new products available."
Working with wholesalers Bettancourt Green Building Supplies of Brooklyn, NY http://www.bettencourtwood.com/, Cali Bamboo, San Diego, CA http://www.calibamboo.com/, and Smith & Fong of San Francisco, CA http://www.plyboo.com/ Reese says that Woodland /West Building Supply will have the most advanced selection of green building materials and products in the greater Delaware Valley.
The timing coincides with the building and Grand Opening of an all new 2,000 sq. ft. showroom and office
at the company's supply yard at 4701 Woodland Avenue location in West Philadelphia, in the next few weeks.
The products we're getting through our new relationship with Bettancourt, Cali Bamboo and Smith & Fong are really fantastic," says Reese. "We're particularly impressed with a kitchen counter materials like PaperStone and Richlite. Both of these products boast the aesthetics of the popular granite and other stone countertops but are made of recycled paper and plastics, and have the same properties as wood in terms of cutting, finishing and repairing."
Reese also says the wholesalers he has found also supply very impressive bamboo paneling, countertop, flooring , as well as rolled bamboo fencing that is very competitive with comparable wood products, and totally sustainable. Woodland also plans on stocking new lines with cabinetry and interior finishing plywoods with even lower VOC or no VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) ratings.
Another dramatic and aesthetic exciting new product is a recycled glass material that can be used for counters, opaque paneling and a variety of other creative solutions.
"Right now we are in a very important transitional phase in terms of the green building revolution," says Reese. "The public is demanding the implementation of green building products and techniques but until the contractors and builders can get these products as easily as they order plywood and sheetrock, the process will be very slow and expensive."
This green product initiative by Woodland Building Supply and its related suburban company West Building Supply will give more builders at all levels of the construction market better access to the latest innovative products."
This new Green Product initiative is built upon several years Woodland Building Supply developing into Philadelphia's leading resource for green building materials from framing to finish. Woodland only buys lumber
from certified manufacturers.
Woodland carries Space Joist, Floor & roof Joist system. The Joists are manufactured with reduced wood fiber content and recycled metal web system. Woodland Building Supply carries energy star windows and doors from peachtree, masonite, silverline and more.. Woodland Building Supply carries Aristokraft cabinetry with low VOC finishes and stocks metal studs manufactured from recycled metal content.
